Stainless Steel ASTM A182 F304/F304L Pipe Flanges are widely used in low pressure piping systems because no welding is involved when connecting flanges to pipes or other equipment. Among the wide variety of forged flanges, there are some sliding types commonly referred to as sliding flanges. This is a low cost and easy to install flange. Slip flanges are a popular type of pipe flange designed to insert pipe into the hole/center of the flange for welding around the outside diameter (OD) of the pipe and inside the connection. ... flange types are extremely common in low pressure applications.
Sliding flanges are known for their low material cost and ease of installation. One of the added benefits of these flanges is that they can also be used as lap flanges if dealing with Type B or C ends.
Available in a variety of diameters and low pressure models. Unlike welded neck flanges, this flange has no neck to rest on the pipe, so double welding is required.
The sliding flange must be slid into the pipe before welding. In this case, it is double welded inside and out, providing the durability needed to avoid leaks. Their pressure rating is about 2/3 that of butt weld flanges. Sliding flanges are suitable for low pressure applications and are easy to install and weld to different pipes. Additionally, welding helps reduce manufacturing costs.
Sliding flanges do not require a large longitudinal space in the installation pipeline. Plus, they don't require precise cuts in the pipe, and alignment isn't too difficult.
They are mainly used for fluids with low pressure or with little risk of leakage. Today, these flanges are very common in cooling water lines, fire water lines, low pressure compressed air lines, and process lines for steam, oil, gas, condensate, etc. But always keep in mind that material dispensing pressure is low and working conditions are not harsh.
